About three years ago, I stumbled upon a podcast episode that really made me pause and reflect. The host openly declared her love for money, and initially, it made me feel uncomfortable. But then she explained that if such a statement makes anyone feel uneasy, it’s likely because they have a “money mindset block.” She argued that money isn’t inherently bad, but many of us grow up absorbing negative beliefs about it — that it’s scarce, desiring more is greedy, and those with abundance are arrogant. This conversation was a turning point for me.
As a woman, I realized I had internalized many of these negative beliefs about money. Before my business took off, I had successfully manifested many aspects of my life — my spouse, friends, home, and even my golden retriever. Yet, it dawned on me that I had never tried to manifest wealth. The idea of wanting more money felt wrong due to the societal conditioning that it’s better to be content with what you have.
This realization started my journey into understanding and transforming my money mindset. I began to question why I held onto beliefs that made me view financial abundance as something unattainable or negative. Reflecting on my own financial stress and its impact on my ability to enjoy simple pleasures, like shopping without worry or planning a family trip, I recognized the need for change.
I learned to celebrate financial milestones, not just in my life but with a group of women I met online who shared their business successes openly. This environment helped break down my barriers around money, making me realize that talking about income and setting financial goals should not be taboo.
My definition of being “rich” evolved from associating wealth with material possessions to valuing the freedom it brings. For me, richness means making life easier and more enjoyable for my family and me — being able to afford healthcare, education, and experiences without financial strain. This shift in perspective was liberating. I no longer saw desiring wealth as a negative but as a means to create a life full of possibilities and choices.
To help others on their journey, I shared resources that helped me, like the Life Coach School podcast by Brooke Castillo and the book “Happy Pocket Full of Money.” These resources, along with the teachings of Amanda Francis, showed me that changing one’s relationship with money is not only possible but essential for personal and professional growth.
In sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to examine their money mindsets. It’s not about accumulating wealth for the sake of it but about breaking free from limitations and embracing the freedom to make choices that enrich our lives and the lives of those we care about. Changing how we view money can open up a world of possibilities, and for me, that has been worth every effort.
