Hi, I'm Angie

Embarking on the journey of establishing and promoting an online business can feel like an uphill battle, especially when it requires putting yourself in the spotlight.

Many budding entrepreneurs struggle with the fear of showing up and being visible on digital platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more.

Today, let’s dive into how one can overcome these fears with authenticity and confidence.

Understanding the Fear

Years ago, when I first started my business, The Bespoke Edit, I felt the intense pressure to conform to social media trends.

The thought of dancing or acting out trending TikTok skits made me cringe. Like many others, I feared judgment from peers and worried about embarrassing myself in front of an audience that included old friends and acquaintances.

The revelation came: You don’t have to force yourself into uncomfortable molds to be successful or to garner attention. Authenticity attracts the right audience, not the forced virality.

Personal Experiences and Lessons Learned

My first reel fail

In 2020, during the rise of my digital business transition, I mistakenly believed the only way to attract clients was through trendy and often ‘cringey’ content. I quickly realized these methods were incongruent with my brand, bringing me no closer to my ideal clientele.

Key takeaway: Your marketing strategies should resonate with your brand’s integrity, not just with current trends.

Blocking Out the Noise

When I began sharing more personal achievements and stories, particularly sharing earnings and successes, I faced unexpected snark and comments from friends and acquaintances. This led me to strategically block certain individuals from viewing my content — a tough but necessary decision to protect my business’s narrative and my personal peace.

Strategy tip: It’s okay to curate your audience on social platforms to ensure your content reaches those who truly value and need your message.

Tips for Overcoming the Fear of Visibility

1. Start Small and Build Confidence
   – Begin with simple posts, like a photograph or a B-roll of everyday scenes. Ease into more personal content as your comfort grows.

2. Focus on Relatability Rather Than Perfection
   – The fear that you need to fit a perfect image to be successful online is unfounded. Authenticity resonates more than flawless presentation. Show your true self, and you’ll attract people who appreciate genuine content.

3. Prioritize the Needs of Your Audience Over Your Insecurities
   – Frame your content around what your audience can gain from it, rather than how you appear. This perspective shift is crucial for meaningful engagement.

4. Build a Supportive Community
   – Connect with like-minded individuals who are also navigating the world of online business. Shared experiences can provide encouragement and reduce the feeling of isolation.

5. Practice Self-Compassion
   – Be kind to yourself when reviewing your content. The occasional imperfection isn’t just acceptable; it’s relatable.

Embrace Your Visibility Journey

Ripping off the bandage and making that first post or reel can be daunting, but remember, the online world is vast, and not everyone will remember every post you make.

Most people are too caught up in their own lives to focus extensively on yours.

Final Words of Encouragement: Be brave and put yourself out there.

Your unique voice deserves to be heard, and your business has the potential to thrive from your authentic presentation.

Today is as good a day as any to step into the spotlight and chase your entrepreneurial dreams. Your future self will thank you for daring to be visible.
